Your car needs a "time-out"

World Car Free Day

September 22 is WORLD CARFREE DAY…

For one day out of the year, do you think you can keep your car in the garage or parked at home? Are you up for the challenge?

This day is a reminder that we don't have to accept car-dominated societies, cities, or personal lives. Since its earliest incarnations in the 1970s and ‘80s, WORLD CARFREE DAY has grown into a massive global celebration of human-centric communities and people-powered transportation.

  1. Don't suppose you saw Bangkok's contribution to World Carfree Day did you? They've painted bright new white bike lanes on Sukhumvit…

    On the sidewalk.

Yet again the half-assery of city planning here pisses me off.

You up for meeting for drinks sometime this week?

  2. haha… so true, dude!

I've been banging my head against the wall for the last couple months trying to figure out what other lackluster way the city is trying to reduce traffic…

then they start advertising the Car Free Day on the BTS… well, since ppl on the BTS are already not driving, I think the city miss the point, don't you?

Anyway, gotta finish a few papers (including one on urban transport) for my Masters in the next few weeks, so I'll be holed up at home till mid Oct…

hope drinks can wait till then…

  3. You’re such a hippie sometimes. And I mean that in the best possible way.

But you’d be proud — on the 22nd I rode my bike to the football game I was working rather than drive. I didn’t even know it was a thing.

  4. yeah yeah… i know, but it’s for a good cause right? hey riding a bike not only is good for the environment, but for your own health… think about the exercise and fresh air you’re getting!
