So have you heard?  Bangkok has a new international airport called Suvarnabhumi… actually the airport is not in Bangkok anymore – it's in the next province to the southeast called Samut Prakan.  The airport is definitely much more modern than the old Don Mueang with high ceilings, a minimalist German industrial design, and lots more natural lighting… BUT it's still very thai in the way that things operate.  You won't really get a sense of it departing, but arriving to the new airport will be pretty much similar to the old airport (i.e. cramped space and confusion – Thai's still haven't figured out that LARGE signs and maps are really important in directing people where to go).  Maybe this arrival section is just a taste to prepare the tourists coming to Bangkok of the craziness that they'll find in the city, a short 1-hour bus ride… don't worry a subway is in the works. <\/p>\n

Its nice to take a break from studying and work to actually get out and see the city and experience Thailand.  This weekend was a nice refresher from the past couple of weekends of studying, studying, and more studying… Met up with my friend to take some pictures of the Rama 8 bridge at night.  Luckily we got some shots in before it started to rain (if you don't know, Thailand is in its rainy season – hopefully it'll be over in the next couple of weeks).  Also go out to do some charity work… was invited by some very nice Thai people to help distribute food at a shelter for poor, underprivileged, abused (or all of the above) women.  It was a great way to contribute back to the country I've lived in on and off for 2 years.  It was organized by the Thai society at Cambridge University in England.  <\/p>\n
