They've even brought back CNN and BBC… most of the censorship, I suppose was to give the military time to organize and figure out what they wanted to do. Even as I write, I've heard that the military is already in the rural areas, where there are strong Thaksin supporters, confiscating weapons and other arms that may be accessible to these supporters (source). Many of the supporters in the city have been arrested or have been restricted in their movements. Also, any form of political gathering (defined as 5 or more people gathered together) will be broken up and the individuals are subjected to a possibility of 6 months in prison. Sure, its not a democracy at the moment, but it seems most Thais (in the city at least) are enjoying this change in government. Sure there have been criticism for the way the military overthrew the government, but without this drastic action, would there have been a change in how the country is being run? most seemed to be curious about the tanks and soldiers and were taking pictures with them (almost like some sort of amusement park). Democracy is a touchy subject, but most people (born, raised, or educated) in the "west" seem to think that Thailand has taken a step backward. To me, the condition of the country and the government has deteriorated in the past few years, that ANY step would have been necessary to move from where they were (even if it wasn't democratic)… although it was a coup d'etat, it was a bloodless one.

(Photos by Dan Caspersz, someone I know at work who got out on Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon.
