Sure, there&#8217;s plenty of denial out there even if the science is clear about what&#8217;s going to happen if we don&#8217;t do something about our energy and transportation use.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4109\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4109\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P1150504.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P1150504.jpg\" alt=\"Geneva has a great public transport system and is bike friendly\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4109\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P1150504.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P1150504-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4109\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Geneva has a great public transport system and is bike friendly<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The main thing is that the story is not convincing anyone&#8230; sure we have all the facts and figures to substantiate the need (i.e. urgency) to do something about climate change, but the problem seems to stem from being able to communicate it&#8217;s important and getting people to do something about it.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eNx9tvCrvv8\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>There seems to be a renewal on the topic of improving the way to communicate science and this is probably one of the reasons why. It&#8217;ll be interesting to see if this is an issue that comes up at this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/climatechange\/summit\/\" title=\"UN Climate Summit\">UN Climate Summit<\/a> taking place on 23 September in New York. Perhaps these <a href=\"http:\/\/newswatch.nationalgeographic.com\/2013\/10\/11\/5-simple-tips-for-communicating-science\/\" title=\"5 Simple Tips for Communicating Science\">5 simple tips<\/a> for communicating science might provide some talking points to get the discussion going&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be simple and straightforward<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t be condescending <\/li>\n<li>Tell compelling stories<\/li>\n<li>Visualize science<\/li>\n<li>Be apolitical<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As for AskWhyWhyNot.org mentioned in the video, it&#8217;s an initiative setup by The Climate Reality Project founded by Nobel Laureate and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore to take the climate conversation forward and turn awareness into action.
