{"id":394,"date":"2008-10-20T17:26:14","date_gmt":"2008-10-20T10:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/wordpress\/?p=394"},"modified":"2011-03-18T19:47:28","modified_gmt":"2011-03-18T19:47:28","slug":"learning-more-about-timor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/archives\/394","title":{"rendered":"Learning more about&nbsp;Timor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-396\" title=\"Help the country to help itself\" src=\"http:\/\/vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/dscn1424.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/dscn1424.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/dscn1424-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>About one week into my stay in Dili and I&#8217;ve found out some things:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>It&#8217;s very hot and dry<\/li>\n<li>People are generally friendly<\/li>\n<li>Food is surprisingly good and varied (i.e. Indonesian, Thai, Turkish, Chinese, Western)<\/li>\n<li>You need a car to go just about anywhere<\/li>\n<li>You don&#8217;t want to be walking on the streets between 10am &#8211; 4pm<\/li>\n<li>Expats tend to spend their weekends on or near the beach<\/li>\n<li>God rested on Sunday&#8230; so does the East Timorese&#8230; its basically a ghost town on Sunday afternoon<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-395\" title=\"Sunset from Metiaut beach\" src=\"http:\/\/vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/dscn1425.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/dscn1425.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/dscn1425-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been talking to the locals and been reading up about the not-so-clear historical facts of Timor-Leste and it&#8217;s a bit shocking.
