The organization was hoping that I would continue, but I decided that it was time for a change and find new avenues for growth. It&#8217;s not my intention for job hopping, but then again with the instability of economies, the chance to grow, and creative opportunities, there&#8217;s a lot to be said about <a title=\"Job Hopping Is the 'New Normal' for Millennials: Three Ways to Prevent a Human Resource Nightmare\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jeannemeister\/2012\/08\/14\/job-hopping-is-the-new-normal-for-millennials-three-ways-to-prevent-a-human-resource-nightmare\/\">hopping around like a Millennial<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p>The long-time face of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/unisdr\">@unisdr<\/a> twitter is leaving. Thank you <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/vfung\">@vfung<\/a>! <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/aPfFZ9QJ0r\">pic.twitter.com\/aPfFZ9QJ0r<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; PreventionWeb (@PreventionWeb) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PreventionWeb\/statuses\/426023863873716224\">January 22, 2014<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Now that I&#8217;ve had a couple of weeks to reflect, it&#8217;s been a whirlwind since joining the organization&#8217;s communication unit in September 2010 to direct and coordinate basically anything to do with web or online communications. While I&#8217;m definitely proud of pulling together and standardizing <a title=\"UNISDR\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/archives\/2523\">UNISDR&#8217;s global corporate website<\/a> within 6 months of joining, which was on the shelves or in discussions for 5 years before that, I&#8217;m ecstatic about how far we&#8217;ve come in terms of branding the organization and being more visible in the public eye. This included redesigning the logo to be more in-sync with overall UN brand, rolling-out a corporate visual identity guide, supporting and driving the 4-year Step Up initiative for the <a title=\"International Day for Disaster Reduction (Oct 13)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/?s=iddr\">International Day for Disaster Reduction (Oct 13)<\/a>, and coming up with online brand and communication strategies for promoting and getting people engaged in the <a title=\"The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unisdr.org\/we\/coordinate\/global-platform\">Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction<\/a>, particularly for 2011 and 2013.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-3703\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2014-02-11 at 3.25.15 PM\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-3.25.15-PM.png\" width=\"584\" height=\"395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-3.25.15-PM.png 974w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-3.25.15-PM-300x202.png 300w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-3.25.15-PM-100x67.png 100w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-3.25.15-PM-150x101.png 150w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-3.25.15-PM-200x135.png 200w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-3.25.15-PM-450x304.png 450w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-3.25.15-PM-600x405.png 600w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-3.25.15-PM-900x608.png 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All the while, social media, content development, infographics, and brand strategies were regular vocabulary in my work with the organization &#8211; and with a bit of convincing, these are also terms that my colleagues are starting to share and discuss. It wasn&#8217;t really a surprise that right up until the last day of work, I was busy&#8230; and this included writing a <a title=\"The \u201cBest Kept Secret in the UN\u201d\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unspecial.org\/2014\/02\/the-%E2%80%9Cbest-kept-secret-in-the-un%E2%80%9D\/\">farewell article about UNISDR<\/a>, for the February 2014 edition of the UN Special, a monthly magazine produced for the international community in Geneva, which I just saw for the first time today.<\/p>\n<p>Just before I left, the Director told me that I should come &#8220;home&#8221; after a few years&#8230; who knows, I might just take her up on her offer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Almost three weeks ago to the day was my last day with UNISDR after a very prosperous and successful three and half years of work with a small yet important entity within the United Nations.
