{"id":128,"date":"2007-01-26T11:50:38","date_gmt":"2007-01-26T04:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/wordpress\/archives\/128"},"modified":"2011-03-24T08:08:09","modified_gmt":"2011-03-24T08:08:09","slug":"oz-tralia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/archives\/128","title":{"rendered":"Oz-tralia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img title=\"Byron Bay\" src=\"http:\/\/vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/01\/resize-of-dscn8752.JPG\" border=\"5\" alt=\"Byron Bay\" \/><br \/>\n(The Pass &#8211; along a walk to checkout Byron Bay&#8217;s famous lighthouse perched atop a hill, we came across this cool &#8220;pass&#8221; where surfers go out to catch some swells)<\/p>\n<p>Just spent the last two weeks enjoying the sun, sand and beaches downunder&#8230; The last time I was in Oz was about 7 years ago.\u00a0 It was under very different circumstances this time around and I really enjoyed my time there.\u00a0 I visited friends and family who I haven&#8217;t seen for ages and everyone has changed (i.e. grown up or gotten older).\u00a0 Having been there before, this trip was just to have a relaxing time away from the crowds, pollution and noise of Bangkok &#8211; definitely a welcome relief.<\/p>\n<p><img title=\"Sydney at night\" src=\"http:\/\/vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/01\/resize-of-dscn8728.JPG\" border=\"5\" alt=\"Sydney at night\" \/><br \/>\n(The Sydney skyline at night &#8211; after going through all my photos from this trip, I realized that I didn&#8217;t take any pictures of the famous Harbour Bridge, which is directly to the right of this picture)<\/p>\n<p>In a way, I was a little homesick&#8230; not because I missed Canada, but mainly the lifestyle and activities I was accustomed to growing up, like playing sports, enjoying the outdoors, and being able to move around fairly easily by cycling or walking.\u00a0 Of course Bangkok has all that, but I do miss the ease of just getting out of your house and going for a walk or taking a short trip to the beach or into the mountains &#8211; it seems so much of an effort to do that in BKK, especially when I don&#8217;t live near the city (where all the easily accessible parks and outdoor activities can be found) and when I have to brave the climate and traffic to just go for a walk.<\/p>\n<p><img title=\"Byron's Tallow Beach\" src=\"http:\/\/vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/01\/resize-of-dscn8775.JPG\" border=\"5\" alt=\"Byron's Tallow Beach\" \/><br \/>\n(Tallow Beach around the lighthouse headland where the swells are big, the rips are strong, and the more hardcore of beachbums and surfers go!)<\/p>\n<p>While I enjoy my work and the places it has taken me, I do miss the lifestyle I grew up in&#8230;. maybe it&#8217;s a sign to slow down and start to think about quality of life rather than just quality of work.\u00a0 I think a large part of life and happiness is not only doing interesting things\/work, but also being in good company and a healthy environment.<\/p>\n<p><img title=\"Tres amigos\" src=\"http:\/\/vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/01\/resize-of-dscn8723.JPG\" border=\"5\" alt=\"Tres amigos\" \/><br \/>\n(Taking a break during a perfomance by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sydneyfestival.org.au\/event.asp?typeID=-1&amp;eID=15&amp;type=all&amp;EventName=LOST%20AND%20FOUND%20ORCHESTRA\" target=\"_blank\">Lost and Found Orchestra<\/a> at the Sydney Opera House.\u00a0 The performance was one of the most unique, musical, and creative ones I&#8217;ve seen in a while&#8230; I think Bangkok needs to expand its international shows and festivals &#8211; its really lacking in the city)<br \/>\n(A special treat in Melbourne!\u00a0 My cousin and I were able to pickup tickets to the Australian Open&#8230; it was an awesome event and one of the highlights of my trip.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t get to go into the Rod Laver Arena where all the top players play, but we did catch some players practising on the grounds outside the arena.\u00a0 Plus many of the games are played on the grounds where you can still see your favorite players &#8211; lots o&#8217; good-looking Russians in the event, right Ness? ;oP)<\/p>\n<p><img title=\"My uni\" src=\"http:\/\/vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/01\/resize-of-dscn8815.JPG\" border=\"5\" alt=\"My uni\" \/><br \/>\n(I finally got a chance to put a place to a name&#8230; Here it is &#8211; not a figment of my imagination &#8211; the University I&#8217;ve been studying &#8220;at&#8221; for the past year.
