One of the first things I thought while waiting in line at immigration was that I&#8217;m in one of the most populated countries in the world (over 200 million) . At most airport immigration points I&#8217;ve been to, there&#8217;s usually a longer line of foreigners at immigration, probably because of longer visa\/immigration procedures. But, when I came to Jakarta&#8217;s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the line for Indonesians coming back to their home country was probably three times longer than the foreigner line.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1016\" title=\"Street just outside the hotel\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/P1020777.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/P1020777.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.vincentfung.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/P1020777-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While the trip from the airport to the hotel in the central park of the city was surprisingly green and open, entering the Central Business District was a total mess &#8211; cars upon cars intermixed with crowded buses and weaving motorbikes. Just in case you didn&#8217;t know, there are no metro\/subway\/light-rail systems in Jakarta &#8211; the bustling and modern capital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a quick 20 hour flight, I arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia.
